Here in Peru, the Nazarene pastors on the coast have a lot of opportunities for fellowship, conferences and retreats. But in the jungle and in Iquitos so many of the churches are very remote and the pastors have few resources, especially for travel. So this is our purpose here- to encourage them, provide them with teaching (Greg taught all day for four days on this trip), some practical gifts and also with opportunities for fellowship. It's been very humbling. Many of the pastors were barefoot. They need basic necessities like pots and pans and silverware. At the mission station at Nuevo Horizonte last week, we held a communion and anointing service. It was so powerful to see these men and women who serve in such difficult circumstances on their knees.
Pastors in line waiting for dinner with their little bowls. The folks from Hawaii who are here with us donated money for a cow, so that they would have good food while they are here. It feels awkward that we walk in and sit down to a dinner served to us by the teachers and directors of the Bible college here, but these folks wait in line. They don't complain, and they seem happy to be here.
